A collection of characters and icons I've done over the years for various projects.

Funwar action scene

The Ninja versus the Robot. Two of the characters from an online turn based fighting game thats being made.

Funwar Characters

The Monster, Ninja and Pirate characters from an online fighting game thats being made. The brief was to keep the character shapes as similar as possible, and create a kit of parts that would allow the team to customise their characters easily.

Arabic scene

A scene from an animation I am working on at the moment, this is just a personal project. I am interested in animating the geometric patterns that are found in arabic art.

Gunfighter

I did this after watching a lot of Nicholas Cage films. I wanted to combine flat patterns in a three dimensional picture.

Lonely Loves Lonely

The Factory

A scene from a short animated movie that I did the concept art for. This is of a run down robot assembly plant.

Space mausoleum

The main character in the movie is a super rich industrial baron who has no friends or family and so instead of leaving his fortune, he builds a rocket to put his body in and blasts it into space.

Assembly line

This is the factory in full production mode, I wanted to make the assembly robots a bit more interesting than contemporary factory robots, so I gave them a bit of an art deco feel.

Cosmic incident

The spaceship the rich industrialist made flies into a sun.

Cityscape

Just a standard cityscape the film needed, I put in the beach front railing from Brighton just for fun.

Assorted art

Water Metropolis

A cityscape that was painted for a university comic project about robots in an alternative 1920's setting.

Idol

A book cover using finger paint (no brush was available) and then processed in photoshop.

Shock

A pastiche of a comic book panel.

Tischoberwald

A scene from a short illustrated story book about a girl who has the dots stolen from her dress. This was done in Corel Draw and then painted over in Photoshop to give a sort of blurry spray can effect.

Azure Rider

This grew from a doodle in Illustrator, there was no plan for the picture, parts just got added until I eventually ended up with this. The picture was then taken out of Illustrator and painted in Photoshop to roughen up the edges.

Free TV

One of nearly 100 Virgin Media banners I worked on. This is a standard 30k MPU.

Faster Broadband 1

This banner was the end of a series of putting turtles on ever faster modes of transport, in this one we decided to put a rocket on the turtle, unfortunately someone in Wales decided to copy the ad a day after it was launched and we had to pull the advert due to RSPCA complaints.

Faster Broadband 2

In the second version of the campaign we decided to drop the animal theme completely, and go for a transforming car

Hermit Crab

The brief was to create a banner to encourage people moving house to use Virgin Media. I created a simple IK rig to make the crab walk.

Final Banner

This is the last banner I made at my old company (extended version of a previous one). I used an IK rig with gestures like tapping that were fired by actionscript to minimize animation file size.

Movie banners

Wanted Overlay

This involved a lot of After Effects work, particle effects to create the shattering glass and rotoscoping for the bullet. The rest of the banner is straightforward flash. I wanted to create the feel of a comic book (which is what the movie is based upon).

Mummy 3 Overlay

Overlay banner for the latest Mummy film. This used After Effects to create the dust effect.

Mummy 3 Skyscraper

An expandable skyscraper. There were few approved assets available at the time, so the brief was to make the most of the poster art. I animated as many elements in the poster as possible, flags, clouds, reflective surfaces and sand.

BBC Worldwide Christmas Card

A cute animation for an animated Christmas card that the BBC commissioned, I did both the illustration and the animation.

Virgin Trains Screensaver

A screen saver created for Virgin Trains' new office.

Virgin Atlantic Christmas game

A pinball game I illustrated and animated for the airline's Christmas mailer. This was done on a very tight deadline, unfortunately we had no coder so I had to at the last minute animate as many routes the ball could take as possible.
